My Father in heaven, let Your servant not be dull in hearing Your voice. Inspire me with passion to heed the lessons which You use to teach me truth. Enable me to hold fast to the discipline of constant communion with You in prayer, reading and listening. Move my feet in the direction of Your will to care for the fatherless and help the poor. I am in great danger of falling away from You in seasons of peace and prosperity. For when I have reached the peak of a summit of suffering, I feel I deserve an extended rest even if Your work has yet to be completed. Help me not to disregard the prompting of Your Spirit by falling asleep in my faith. Lord, inoculate my soul with Your love so that the sickness of spiritual neglect does not infect me in times when I experience the bounty of Your blessings. Only You can fill my hunger with the bread from heaven, Jesus. Only You can keep my wavering heart from growing lethargic. Let my natural inclination to complain not become a catalyst for oblivion which drives me toward the comforts of prosperity rather than the discipline of walking in righteousness. May I not have any more or any less than what You have designated is truly best for the nourishment of my soul in Christ. Your delight is my desire. Under the Word given in Proverbs 30:7-9 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
O God, I beg two favors from you;
let me have them before I die.
First, help me never to tell a lie.
Second, give me neither poverty nor riches!
Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.
For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?”
And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.
