Today’s Prayer

Grant me a thorough and unaltered devotion to Your Kingdom, Lord God. In the strength and power of Your Spirit, may my heart abstain from desires unholy, from covetousness and a pursuit of wealth. May my lingering pride not be easily stroked by empty compliments or the vain courtesies of a temporary world. Because I belong to You, the treasures and priorities of this world should not hinder my spiritual journey by consuming my time and thoughts. Do not let me prioritize money or give excessive attention to the courtesies of life which trap me into desiring comfort and ease over faith and hope. Help me to strive as a servant appointed by You for the purpose of bringing You glory. The life You have given me is more precious than all the feasting, traveling, and partying this world glorifies. May I live as contented while anticipating the end of this journey here. My love for You, Jesus, is not fickle but steadfast. Keep me from temptation or falling back to old, carnal ways. Let me think more of You, my Savior, and less of me as I pass through this fallen world like a sojourner not yet home and scarcely bothered by what I meet along the road because I am merely passing through. Under the blessed assurance of the Word set down in 1 Peter 2:10-11 and the authority of my Savior, Christ Jesus I bow in humble prayer.

Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
1 Peter 2:10-11, ESV
