Help me be silent, Lord God, so that I might listen to the sweet sound of Your voice above all other noises clamoring for my attention. Quiet the words birthed from my emotion and the speeches erupting from selfish desires. Your wounds speak to me regarding my own sinfulness. Let me be convicted by the wrongs I have done to You, God Almighty. Your resurrection tells of the mighty power of grace. Let me rejoice that Your love covers my transgression and iniquity. Silence the rattling clang of worry and concern that often pollutes the serenity of my heart. Do not let the jangling clamor of private ambitions deafen me to Your guidance and counsel. My desire is to live according to Your will, not my own desires. My own voice is an injury to me, Lord. Yours is a blessed renewal of strength. May I resist the urge to listen to the uncertain sounds and only trust in Your promises as they are given voice in Your Word. Sway me in the direction of Your holy influence, Lord God, as I wait upon You in silence. Assist Your servant, Lord, until I have abandoned myself, quieted my mind, and listened to the Spirit of the divine. Under the blessed truth set upon the pages of Holy Scripture in Ecclesiastes 5:2 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I pray.
Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5:2, ESV
