Ready me for the inevitability of battle as only You can, Lord Jesus. Whether it comes in the form of physical infirmity or mental anguish, Lord, help me meet the enemy straight on with my shield of faith lifted high. May my life not be a chase of personal desire but a fight of faith in pursuit of Your will, mighty God. The evil choices of my past may haunt me like shadows, but they have no teeth with which to take a bite out of my hope in You. Your grace has defanged my enemy’s condemning soldiers, Lord Jesus. Hot in pursuit as my mind replays old scenes with the intent of tripping me up, I am gloriously reminded that my feet are firmly fitted with the gospel of salvation. Those haunting choices of my past disappear like vapor when put up against the louder truth of Your Word resonating from my heart to my mind. Let me raise a hallelujah in the presence of such enemies. Sin no longer has a grip on me. You have transformed my destiny, Lord. One who was headed on the straight path to death was turned by Your gracious intervention toward life in the Spirit. Multiply the effects of Your grace each and every day, Lord. Continually make my heart refreshed with the cleanliness of the gospel. Keep my focused pursuit on bringing You glory in the ordinary rather than seeking to find extraordinary ways to prove Your love. It is not proof of love that You called Your disciples to. You called them to show and live love. Only by Your power can Your servants do the same. So ready us for the battlefield strewn with the land mines of deception and hostility, Lord. The battle is Yours and may we delight to be Your soldiers of faith. Under the blessed truth set down in Psalm 18:39 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
