What is gold compared to the priceless treasure of having You, Jesus? What good is it to harvest only to store up in barns where moths and thieves ruin the crop? Let Your servant not be dazzled by wealth and privilege that will soon pass away as sure as this world will. Spiritual life cannot be sustained by earthly commodities. Does a grieving heart find relief in a myriad of possessions? Does a desponding soul get alleviated by a large bank account? If fame and applause could allay the pangs of an unsaved soul, many a celebrity would not seek out substances for escape. Lord, make my heart aware of its wandering nature. Remind my soul where true nutrition is found. Let me feast on Your Word in season and out. For there are grief’s in life that no measure of wealth or security can alleviate. The soul is only secure in Your hands. The mind is only safe when shielded by truth in the gospel. The heart is only pumping life into the body when that life is submitted to You. Cheer me, Lord, in the prospect of Your inheritance. Whatever I lack in this life, I gladly rejoice in because the richness of Your love toward me is all I need. Your presence is my comfort. Your Word assuages my weariness. Your promises guide my steps. Your love lights up the darkest valley. Truly, I have enough because I have You, Jesus. Under the blessedness of Your Word in Ephesians 2:4-9 and the authority of Christ, my Savior, I bow in prayer.
But God, being rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with Him, and made us to sit with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus; for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast.
