Lord, cure me of worldly tendencies and fascinations. Turn my thoughts toward heaven and Your Kingdom far more often than I dwell on the temporary ailments of this world. Liberate my soul from the bonds that tether me to this physical existence by strengthening the cord that links me to heaven. May I think less of this part of the story and more of the eternal saga. Such contemplations are the cure for melancholy and loneliness. Even those who have gone before me, those whom I sorely miss, I am consoled of when I think of the bliss they experience in Your presence. Let my grieving heart be reminded that for those in Christ to die is the greatest gain. There is no perishing when the Author of life has anointed a person for salvation. Thank You, Lord, for such a gift. Teach me to live as one who does not fear death. Under the blessed assurance of Your perfect promise in John 3:14-15 and the authority of Christ, I bow in prayer.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.
John 3:14-15, ESV
