Affliction assails me with the ferocity of a storm, Lord. Your Word tells me not to be surprised, but too often I am caught off guard. Reconcile me to the truth that You would not allow it unless something good and greater will come of it. I can take heart because You have overcome the world. It is Your abundant love that supplies my daily bread. It is Your sovereign will that presents me with daily crosses. Your Spirit is the strength which allows me to carry it with the same measure of humility You showed me on Your journey to Calvary. Help me take the next excruciating step, Lord. You are the only One who can deliver me from evil. Despite my weakness, I delight to know that You use me. Reveal to me the purpose for which You created me. Let all that I accomplish bring glory to Your Kingdom. When I am alone, make me aware of Your nearness. Tingle me with discernment to know that which is good and move toward it. No matter what affliction creates a storm in my life, I can rest assured in You that it will all pass me by in Your perfect timing. Under the blessed canopy of John 16:33 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33, NIV
