Lord, by the power of Your Spirit, enable me to stand still when You require it. Patience is a virtue that takes such a long time to master. Quick-footed responses and determined marching are the standards of a hurried culture. It seems counter-intuitive for a warrior of God to stand still. And yet, it is often what You desire. Even the sun obeyed such a command, suspending its regular, predictable rhythm in order to accomplish Your sovereign will in the life of Joshua, Your servant. My spirit is willing to wait upon You even when perplexity marks the path. Stillness makes me anxiously delirious because I inadvertently incite doubt that tempts me to backtrack just so I can move. Keep me from turning to the wrong way simply because I need to feel momentum. Let me not rush forward in presumption that is deluded by a heart that hears what it wants to hear. God, give me strength to wait on You in prayer. I call upon You in the midst of difficulties. With simplicity of soul, I come to the altar, knowing You are good and that Yours is the only way. I know my own folly and predilection for weakness. Let me be still and wait upon You, Lord. Under the blessed assurance of Your Word in Psalm 33:18-19 and the authority of Christ, I bow in humble prayer.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who wait for His faithfulness,
To rescue their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
Psalm 33:18-19, NASB
