Forgive the impatient pondering of Your servant’s heart, Lord God. I easily fret and fume when prayer is not answered in the immediacy of my expectations. I forget my place beneath the sovereignty of Your will. Just because I do not get my way does not mean my prayer goes unanswered. Let me rejoice that my connection to You in prayer does not falter or cease. Where my own desires are found to be in error Lord, I ask that You mildly correct them until I am better aligned with Your heart. Cheerfully, I bless whatever it is You ask of me. Humbly, I plead for the ability to set my own agenda aside. Lead me further down this path that strays from worldly influence. Anoint me with a desire for holiness. I seek You with all of my heart. Pull me into the depths. Under the blessed assurance of 1 John 2:15-16 and the authority of Christ, I bow before the altar in prayer.
Do not love the world or the things that belong to the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For everything that belongs to the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s lifestyle—is not from the Father, but is from the world.
1 John 2:15-16, HCSB
