Like a bowstring nocked with an arrow quivering in anticipation of flight, this story plops you right in the center of tension from the first page! Mesu Andrew’s latest novel, Brave, is a thrilling adventure from start to finish.
Worthy of any woman’s admiration, the feisty main character, dagger-wielding Ahinoam starts off as a closed bud of femininity waiting to blossom. As she flees for her life and joins the rebel King David while he is on the run from King Saul, you can’t help but feel the story vibrate with layers of tension.
Andrew’s signature writing style paints biblical scenes with such vivid hues of imaginative potency that you can’t help but feel like you were there, traversing the wilderness with a parched mouth. One of my favorite quotes, and there were plenty, was: “Perhaps David simply needed to remember Yahweh’s goodness before facing another day of messy blessings.”
The novel’s poignant characterizations and well-paced plot make it an unforgettable read. Only the first book in the series about King David’s brides, Mesu Andrews truly delivers a masterpiece that keeps you eagerly anticipating the next book.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but was not required to leave a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
