Today’s Prayer

Lord, rid me of the desires of the flesh that have no bearing on Your preferences for me. Move my heart with motivations etched in the ink of Your will. Whether You bring down blessing or trial, I trust that Your decision is the best way. Mark my prayers with fervency so that my devotion does not grow cold through the routine of dutiful adherence to a habit that is more religious than relational. Where the flames of my faith have become lukewarm, fuel me with something new that will become a catalyst for spiritual advancement. In every petition, let me proceed with perseverance despite delayed responses. Convince me of my need for confession. Let me bow in contrition and humble myself before You. Out of the depths of tearful agony or on the height of joyful ecstasy, in the throes of trial or on the wings of blessing, keep me ever mindful of Your sovereignty. Perfume my prayers with sweet devotion that swells my heart with trust. Under the majesty of Psalm 32:5-6 and the authority of Christ, I come in prayer.

I acknowledged my sin to You,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
    and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
Therefore let everyone who is godly
    offer prayer to You at a time when You may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
Psalm 32:5-6, ESV
