Today’s Prayer

Stop the mouth of liars the same way You shut the jaws of the lions in Daniel’s den. Those who spew hate only condemn themselves by their words. Where criticism abounds, pride lurks like an ugly shadow. When I speak, may my words bring life not death. Reveal to me the positive when I am prone to see only the negative. Those who seek to destroy life with their words will answer to You. Though I dread the vile opinions that shattered confidence and seek to turn dreams into nightmares, I know You will preserve my life. In You, I am well-hidden from the wicked. Their plots will not succeed against Your will. With evil intentions, some mistake their opinions as swords, aiming biting comments like arrows. Your shield of divine love dulls the injuries from such ambushes. Let haters hold to their evil purposes while I take refuge in my Savior. The innermost part of the soul possesses a depth revealed only to You. Let me take my hurt to the sanctuary rather than respond in defense prompted by vile comments. Your arrow of justice shoots much further than my dagger of revenge. I bring You my troubles, Lord, knowing that You will take up my cause. Under the blessing of Your Word in Psalm 37:1-3 and the authority of Christ, I bow in prayer.

Don’t fret because of evildoers,
neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
and wither like the green herb.
Trust in Yahweh, and do good.
Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.
Psalm 37:1-3, NIV
