My Review

The spiritual struggle depicted in Tracy Higley’s novel, So Shines the Night, is palpable, a tension that vibrates on every page, leaving the reader breathless. This was a five-star read for me, one that kept my imagination stirred long after I closed the pages.

Hot on the heels of Daria, as she sprints through the ancient ruins of Rhodes pursued by unseen horrors, this heart-pounding story plunges readers into a frantic race against spiritual assault, the scent of truth and mystery heavy throughout the narrative. The famed city of Ephesus, a place where the clash of darkness and light was almost visible, becomes the setting for Daria’s desperate fight to save a man who first saved her. The growing power of a dark sorcery, however, crackles with an unseen energy overshadowing the battle for Lucas’s soul.

The historical vibrancy in Higley’s masterfully detailed writing is palpable, making you feel as if you are present in the time period. The characters’ struggles, evident in their quiet moments of despair and their bursts of determined action, make them both relatable and poignant. Though unrushed, this book’s dense, captivating plot will keep you turning the pages late into the night.

The plot pulses with spiritual conflict, yet the story’s heart beats with the redemptive power of salvation, the warmth of love, and the unwavering strength of faith. The recurring theme—fall into grace—pulses like lifeblood throughout the narrative’s veins, enriching every scene. Appearances by Bible characters such as Paul and Timothy, with their courageous acts and unwavering faith, strengthen the story’s connection to the gospel’s power over darkness. A shocking plot pivot throws the narrative into exhilarating chaos, culminating in a thrilling, suspenseful ride to a redemptive conclusion that will leave readers breathless.

I highly recommend this book; its compelling narrative and unforgettable characters will not disappoint.
