Lord, lift up Yourself in defense of my soul against the attacks from the enemy. Despair assaults furiously when I least expect it. Spiritual drowsiness makes it hard to remain awake. Your truth lights me from the inside. Gather me to the core of Your heart where love is sovereign and grace is protective. Be swift in Your judgment and let Your Spirit be my corrective guide. Wickedness must come to an end so that righteousness can begin. Test my mind, Lord. Sift through the contents of my heart until all unsavory things are disregarded. You are my shield. The upright in heart find assurance in Your salvation. Overflowing with gratitude is a heart and soul fixed on the cross. Measure me with the gracious scales of divine love. Though I fall short of Your perfect design, help me, shape me, and mold me into Your likeness. Blessed be Your Name, Lord God who reigns. Under the truth in Your Word as set down in Psalm 3:2-4 and the authority of Christ, I pray.

Many there are who say of my soul,
    “There is no help for him in God.”
But You, Yahweh, are a shield around me,
