My Review

FAVORITE QUOTE:

“But in his current state, Roland could not truly love me. In fact, he could not truly love anyone but himself. He was still a foolhardy boy, though his body had long been that of a man. He was still set upon his own desires, choosing to run rather than facing life’s problems or his own shortcomings. So long as he continued down this treacherous path, loving him would only continue to break my heart.”

The Runaway Prince by Ashton Dorow, a fabulous addition to the Royals of Acuniel series, hums with a captivating theme of redemption. The familiar scriptural echo of the prodigal son resonates in this wonderfully crafted narrative, its spiritual impact like a whisper in the imagination. Dorow’s clear prose expertly weaves a character-driven tale, pulling you into her vibrant, imagined world set in medieval times.

Roland, the complex main character, is a captivating enigma; a whirlwind of emotions that leave you breathless, unsure whether to embrace or condemn his actions. The lovable scoundrel makes you want to shake him with an urgent plea to get it together! At the same time, you can’t help but empathize with Elyse’s heartbreak and her justifiable anger as it wars with love.

The book throbs with frustration and unpredictability, each page turn pulling you deeper into the tilting, tumultuous romance. The story unfolds in shocking, unexpected directions that make the journey thrilling. Plenty of spiritual takeaways truly fill out the redemptive arc moving like a holy current in the story. The incredible, unfailing love of God, as exemplified through family bonds and devoted strangers, is beautifully illustrated in this story.

The plot is perfectly paced with enough percolating questions that you find yourself wanting to read just one more chapter. There is little chance of reading this without your heart being fully engaged and your eyes shedding a tear or two. And the ending is superbly done. No surprise this was another five-star read for me. Ashton Dorow doesn’t disappoint her readers. I highly recommend this series.
