My Review

FAVORITE QUOTE:

“She had forgiven her father, but she was learning that forgiveness in humans was not finished upon the act of forgiving. It was a continual undertaking—every time the offense resurfaced, she had to remind herself that she had forgiven him and to make the decision again.”

A Scheming in Parliament by Erica Vetsch captivates readers with political intrigue, a gripping theme woven deeply within its pages, along with others that incite curiosity. Sir Bertrand Thorndike and Philippa Cashel, familiar characters from the first book, lend a comfortable feeling to the richly woven story hinting at romance.

Suspenseful and mysterious, the plot unfolds in mind-boggling ways, with subtle clues scattered like literary nuggets in each chapter. The side characters play wonderfully supporting roles, filling the book with an intimate feeling that resonates deeply. Even the most minor character has a part to play in the grander narrative. Aunt Dolly’s devoted nature and bent toward self-sacrifice meets its match alongside the ruggedly handsome Preacher Hewitt’s mysterious past, illustrating how God sends the precise individuals needed at the opportune moment.

Beyond the fascinating political machinations, this story intricately weaves faith, its threads of redemption and grace resonating powerfully through the narrative. Even with its focus on intriguing political debates, this book truly leaves no stone unturned. Infused with a hint of mystery, a love that blossoms slowly, a strong sense of faith, and enigmatic secrets, it’s anything but dull. This was a captivating five-star read that sparked my imagination and left me with a lingering desire for more. And the ending… Well, I just have to say, it was superbly done! Can’t wait for the next book.
