“There was always a risk of pain when loving broken people, but the risk should always be taken.”
With poetic prose that fully engages the heart, Carrie Cotten’s The Huntress is a story not easily forgotten. Her beautiful writing style complements the deeply spiritual hum resonating like a pulse throughout the narrative. From the very start, the story’s mysterious opening keeps you engaged, while a heart-stopping plot and enemies-to-lovers romance quickly follow. The forced relationship will leave you as breathless as the overall plot does when it grips you and drags you into its hopeless situation.
Wondering how mighty God will make a way when there seems to be no way kept me turning pages well into the night. The generational consequences of misunderstanding and secrets, with their relatable messages, weave suspense into the poignant story in a way that tugs at the heart. Main characters, Duncan and Cyrene, with all their layers of complexity, easily endeared themselves to me through their heart struggles and trust issues.
Each chapter contained spiritual nuggets that sparkled like tiny treasures, inviting moments of self-reflection. The author offers an authentic handling of the arranged marriage trope, focusing on the gritty reality of being united with a stranger rather than presenting frilly romance or instant attraction that blazes into love. With a superb ending that thrills and resonates with gospel truth long after the book ends, this is a true gem in the medieval fantasy genre. Inspired, touched, and fully satisfied are only a few of the things I felt after reading Carrie Cotten’s wonderful book.
