“Somehow, in light of him sitting on the floor untangling her hair or grinning beside her in church or showing her his absurd fishing boat with boyhood pride, none of the offenses seemed so reproachful.“
The Red Cottage will capture your attention from the very first page with its intriguing narrative. The beginning revealed a strong romantic connection between the main characters, which felt odd, yet the plot quickly unraveled to showcase Hannah Linder’s masterful storytelling. The gripping and tantalizing pace of the book is maintained by her classically unique writing style.
The story unfolds with surprising turns, its beauty enhanced by the eloquent Regency prose, drawing you into the vibrant world. Tom’s fierce love and relentless pursuit add a dash of nobility to his otherwise common character. Meg’s unfortunate memory loss becomes the catalyst for the suspense that kept me turning pages way too fast. I found the dialogue both witty and charming, perfectly tuned to the story’s setting.
Subtle clues were scattered throughout the chapters, sparking curiosity and anticipation about the ending. This book’s interesting plot is complex, and to grasp it fully, I had to read it with complete concentration. That being said, I finished it quickly, enjoying the resolution to the problems the characters faced. Words to describe this read: Romantically frustrating. Thoroughly engaging. Highly suspenseful. Heart-satisfying conclusion. Readers of regency-style romance will definitely want to add this to their TBR.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but was not required to leave a review. All opinions expressed are my own. Click on the book cover for the synopsis and purchase link.

Meg Foxcroft has never minded the tattling village gossip or her uncle’s ill-tempered rebukes. After all, she has Tom McGwen—and one day, they will build their own cottage, paint it red, and live a wonderful life.
But then the unthinkable happens. Meg is attacked, her uncle’s apothecary shop goes up in flames, and when she wakes up in the arms of an eloquent lord, she remembers nothing. Not even her own name.
In a frantic race against time, Tom plunges into dangerous water, bent on sheltering Meg from harm and discovering who wants her dead. Even if she despises him. Even if it’s now the handsome lord she casts her smile upon.
As danger swells and truth comes crashing around them, Meg must confront the past and decide who she trusts—and loves—before the enemy makes the final strike.
