“This, then, was how it would be. The darkness, lingering and present, wouldn’t be dispelled all in one moment, but rather in a slow encroachment of light.“
A breathtaking memoir of motherhood unfolds on the pages of Heather Kaufman’s new book On Living Stone. Part of the Women of the Way series, this third installment does not disappoint. Elegant prose is quick to wrap around the heart, completely immersing one in the story.
Salome’s relatable character, battling insecurity and doubts about her future and her self-worth, made it easy to connect with her in a profound way. That fierce maternal heart, such a gift from God but also a heavy burden of love, shines through the plot in this story. Highlighting the challenges and joys, the blessings and heartaches, of parenthood added poignant depth to the narrative.
Kaufman has a wonderful way of seamlessly weaving scripture into the fiction, punctuating her books with nudges toward spiritual reflection. This one was no exception, prompting soul-stirring tears at the magnitude of God’s love, his perfect plan deeming every life worthy. From beginning to end, I felt like more than an observer of Salome’s story. On those pages was an invitation to become a friend, a sister. What an absolute delight! Even with the pathos and drama, the familiarity of biblical scenes and characters, this book offers a freshness that replenishes and makes you want to clutch the Bible and praise God for His Word and His love.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but was not required to leave a review. All opinions expressed are my own. Click on the book cover for purchase link.
