A tempest of deceit swirls around me, my Lord. Rescue me from its relentless distraction. Shield me within the refuge of prayer. Only You can keep me from destruction. Meet me in the space of intimate solitude where I come before You exposed and vulnerable in my weakness and sin. Yet, I rejoice because You have taken my infirmities upon Yourself. You have carried me through even though I am nothing but a splinter in Your shoulder. In agonizing earnestness my soul seeks You, Lord. In vehement desire my body longs for You. Let my prayers not be utterly ineffectual because of my mind’s tendency to wander. Take hold of my roving thoughts, Jesus, and make them Your own. I delight to give myself to You. Reveal to me anything which I may be holding back. You are my Rescuer in whose presence my soul finds satisfaction. I lift my right hand to You, Lord, knowing that You will pull me out of the tempest and into Your loving arms, shielding me in truth. Under the mighty Word of Psalm 63:1-4 and the authority of Christ, my prayers are lifted.
O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You;
my soul thirsts for You;
my flesh faints for You,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary,
beholding Your power and glory.
Because Your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live;
in Your Name I will lift up my hands.
