My Lord, keep the flames of white-hot devotion emblazoned in my heart. For I come to meet You alone by the fire of secret prayer. Let the intimacy shared in this space go undisturbed by the worries of this world. You, and only You, can truly examine me on any matter pertaining to truth and godliness. I desire authenticity in my devoted discipleship, Jesus. Create in me purity of heart. Show me what yet lingers which needs to be cast out. When the fiery faith grows dim, fuel me with awareness of Your Spirit. When my walk is weighted with the heaviness of concerns, remind me of Your providence. Let the ordinariness of my life never cause me to grow lukewarm in my love for You, Jesus. For I do not desire a hope which is quickly snuffed out by the ashes of carnal motivations. Rather, keep my heart blazing with love radiant toward truth and alive in Christ. My Savior, You are my heart’s fire. May I never forsake being alone at Your feet. Under the beauty of the Word given in Psalm 51:10-11 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I come before the altar in prayer.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.
    Renew a right spirit within me.
Don’t throw me from Your presence,
    and don’t take Your Holy Spirit from me.
