Lord, may my heart fill with devotion as I approach You in prayer. For I do not want my petition to be a vaporous shadow that lacks the substance of a warm heart. Stir up my soul with an effectual supplication full of vehement desire and agonizing authenticity. I want to be real with You, God, even if I cannot be real with anyone else in my life. Lying tongues assail me. Crooked motivators derail me. What I have to offer in Your Name is squashed and hidden because it remains unwanted. So I come to You in fervent prayer. You are the One who can open shut doors. You are the power that quiets the storm of lies. Stop me, Lord God, from yielding to these distractions. Hold my roving heart in Your steady hand. It is You alone that I seek to please. You alone guide my thoughts and empower my actions. Bowing before You, Lord, I humbly place my petition on the altar casting my cares upon You because they have weighed me down. Delight me with response, Jesus, even if such a response is delayed. Privilege me to wait upon You unmoved by the continual assault of time passing because I trust in You. Gladly I will immerse my heart in prayer for such a time as this. My devotion will settle on nothing less than all of You, Jesus. Under the Word of God in 1 Peter 5:7 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I bow in prayer.
