Today’s Prayer

Lord, forgive me when I dominate others with my opinions or personal interpretation of holy text. Your Word is not designed to exalt its handler but to caress its listener. Conviction of a holy nature is more acutely experienced when defensiveness has not first been provoked. Season my interactions with grace and compassion, Lord. Only You can supply exactly the right words to touch an individual heart. I come to You in ignorance Lord God, realizing how desperate I am for Your daily instruction. For Your people can be naturally inclined to seek validation rather than extend grace. Let us be mindful of the danger represented when we stand in our own convictions to the point of hardening the heart. Knowledge is not the same as wisdom. Maturity in Christ is less a privilege and more a responsibility. Let Your people share what has been given them instead of berate those who do not have what they don’t realize they need. I was once a child of darkness until You brought me into the light. May I not become so distracted by all the truth You illuminate to my soul, Jesus, that I forget to shine Your light toward those still wandering in the dark. Ignorance had been my dearest friend until You became my brother, Jesus. Help me reflect brotherly love to everyone I meet. Keep my heart, my speech, my ways, void of offense. And keep me humbly aware of lingering corruptions. Your servant is far from perfect but grateful to be an instrument of my perfect Savior. Use me as You see fit for the Kingdom, Lord. Remove from me a domineering spirituality and grant me the gentleness of Christ, my King. Under the mighty Word of truth in Colossians 4:5-6 and the authority of Christ.

Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
