Bring Yourself and the gospel always to my remembrance Lord Jesus, for I am as forgetful of truth as I am forgettable in influence. How treacherous is the memory that proves so fallible when it comes to trust and faith in the One who is infallible. Your Word is a loving exhortation to return to You while You may be found. What other conclusion must be drawn in this repeated command except that my fearful supposition is true – my heart is prone to forget. What a lamentable fact that when tragedy strikes, I assume I am alone in the darkness. I cannot recall the previous fires Your mighty breath put out or the history of storms Your simple Word quieted within me. Some days I act as if I had not been redeemed by the blood of the lamb or saved by the grace of the cross. How wretched is my love for You compared to Yours for me, Lord. How could I forget You who gave me life? You, who blotted out my stains and penned my name in the great and awesome book. I confess my fault, Father God. I treat You as a visitor, not a permanent resident in my heart. Let my soul linger with the mindfulness of the cross. Give me a life never to be desecrated by forgetfulness. No creature able to rob my heart of You, Jesus. No pleasure with the power to distract from Your Word. No earthly responsibility so totally engrossing that it overshadows my heavenly honor. Be still and fixed, my soul, upon the glory of the One and only. Let me no longer be unmindful of You upon whom my most ardent affection is eternally set. Under the blessed glory of the Word set forth in Psalm 59:10-11 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
In His unfailing love, my God will stand with me.
He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies.
Don’t kill them, for My people soon forget such lessons;
stagger them with Your power, and bring them to their knees,
O Lord our shield.
Psalm 59:10-11, NLT
