Today’s Prayer

Lord, may the hope of perfection promised in heaven not allow me contentment with imperfection in the now. Purify me with a cleansing hope that motivates holiness. A hope that does not insist upon striving that can easily profane faith with legalism, but a hope that is rooted in grateful adoration for the work You accomplished on the cross. Let grace abide in the ‘now’ so it may be perfected in the the ‘then’. Where I am empty, fill me with the Spirit, Lord. Where I am lacking, supply me with wisdom. Your work in me, once begun, will be finished at the appointed time. Bless the mighty hand that is not withdrawn no matter how many times it is swatted away. Bless the oil that never runs out despite how recklessly it is used. Bless the well-spring of love that flows bountifully for parched and thirsty souls. Remind this grumbling heart of mine how much there is to be thankful for when overwhelming circumstances convince me otherwise. You will not let me rise from this table of life unsatisfied as long as my hope remains in You, Jesus. Under the sweetness of Your Word set down in Philippians 4:6-7 and Christ’s blessed authority, I bow in humble, adoring prayer.

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
