Today’s Prayer

With Your fruit and drink, Lord God, my weary soul is replenished. At Your command, I cast my burdens upon the only shoulders strong enough to carry them. Shoulders marked with the splinters of an old rugged cross. For in Christ alone, I am sustained. Beneath the shadow of Your wings, I find shelter from the scorching heat of adversity. Trouble may be inevitable, worry is not. Father, give me grace to release that which I am clinging too tightly to. Help me to let loose my concerns and projected anxieties. Nothing comes as a surprise to You, even if it does to me. When I am free-falling into an emotional storm, You are there with outstretched arms to cushion my fall. When I am weak, Your strength is granted to me. Against my enemy, You are my shield. I may stand on the banks of the river sorrow, inhaling its noxious fumes, but I need not jump in. The One who bears my sins bears my sorrows too. Let me turn my back on such a river and immerse myself instead in the Living Water of salvation. Upon the waves of grace let my soul float though life until I reach the gates of glory. Under the blessed assurance of the Word in 1 Peter 5:6-8 and the authority of Christ, I bow in prayer.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:6-8, ESV
