“When the world gives you no hope, you must give hope to the world.“
Luke Beckstrand’s Worldcaller is an instantly captivating story that drew me in from the opening lines. The prologue captivated me completely, and the story’s hook only became more irresistible as it unfolded. This story, with its unhurried rhythm and prose that drifts seamlessly into the characters’ minds, pulled me into a world of suspense and mystery.
The narrative pulled me in so deeply by chapter two that the book became a compelling page-turner, keeping me awake long after I should have been asleep. Feeling a pull towards the vulnerability of two brothers caught in an epic, unfolding narrative, I was drawn into wanting to uncover the story’s resolution.
I enjoyed the simplicity of the magic system in application to the elements, as well as life, death, and time. The inclusion of the ancient stone artifacts intensified the plot, weaving in layers of dramatic tension. I enjoyed how the characters’ complexities unfolded naturally, their depths revealed only as the plot demanded. The way the character arcs were seamlessly integrated into the plot made for a truly satisfying read.
Until the last page, I had no idea how it would end. Beckstrand masterfully crafts a story with Narnia, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Stormlight Archives vibes. It left me eager for more. Fantasy lovers wonāt want to miss this one.
