The depth of spirituality weaving literary threads through the prose of Rending Hearts, Paige Reid’s latest in the Guardians of Areli series, truly makes this book a unique fantasy. Her world-building alone is so stellar that it captivated every corner of my imagination. A thorough comprehension of the factors contributing to the kingdom’s current calamities necessitates reading these specific books in order.

What excited me most about diving into this story was continuing Prince Beniah’s tale from book one, while the characters from the prequel played key roles that brought the plot to life. Complete with a spiderweb of ensnaring plot pivots, including a love triangle, fate of the world, forbidden love, and political secrets, this story gets messy before unwinding itself in the most inspiring ways. Every chapter kept me wanting more, while strumming the chords of emotion in a variety of ways.

The characters were relatable and integral to the book’s deeper message, falling in line with scripture. I both loved and hated the cast of the story, each one prodding my heart with distress until I could revel in their victory or rejoice in their demise. This is one series you can’t read impassively. Pulse-pounding throughout the pages and heart-wrenching within the plot, the epic, climactic ending doesn’t disappoint, even while leaving a longing for more. I highly recommend this amazing Christian fantasy series!
