Today’s Prayer

Create my heart anew, God. Remove my wretched inclinations because I am powerless to recognize the evil that lurks within me. Holy Spirit, protect my heart from a callous covering that develops immunity to Your medicinal influence. I am sick in soul, Lord, and need an injection of holiness. Keep me alarmed by the slightest whisper of temptation. Prevent my mind from reasoning away that which would displease You by assuming that it is a minor offense. Let me not become blinded to my unholy thoughts influencing my actions. Take my mind captive to obey You, Jesus, and not my own desires. Take my heart into Your hands so that it is guarded from the enticements of the evil one. God, Your Spirit is the cure for the virus of death that wants to claim me. But, I am Yours, O God. I delight to do Your will. I abhor the appearance of evil. Let me resist the selfish inclination toward iniquity no matter how small or big the indiscretion may seem. Remind me that the tiniest infraction of my soul put You on the cross. The least rebellion of my heart drove the nails into my Lover’s flesh. Let me fall in grateful adoration before You, seeking You always to create a clean heart in me, Lord, so that I can live in the holiness that glorifies You. Under the Word in Psalm 51:7-10 and the authority of Christ, I pray.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
    wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
    let the bones that You have broken rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins,
    and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
    and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:7-10, ESV

  1. Let me resist the selfish inclination toward iniquity no matter how small or big the indiscretion may seem. Remind me that the tiniest infraction of my soul put You on the cross. The least rebellion of my heart drove the nails into my Lover’s flesh.–Good to remember that sin flows from selfishness-our rebellion drives nails into His flesh.
