My Lord and King, set the tinder of my heart ablaze with holy zeal for Your Word. Do not let me be consumed by the fires of selfish passion. Lord, take me into the protection of Your indwelling Spirit because I am fully aware of my own weakness to resist the deception of the enemy. Without the firmness of the grip of divine love, I would fall headlong into a pit of superficial pursuits which only end in my soul’s destruction. But for Your grace, God, I would be as nothing, like chaff that is easily blown wherever the winds of the culture take me. Help me to resist, Lord Jesus. Envelope me with Your mercy though there is nothing good within me. Let Your love be all consuming until Your ways are my own. Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil. I am Yours, Lord, because the fate of my soul was determined by Your cross. Under the majesty of Your Word in Matthew 6:12-13 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.
Matthew 6:12-13, HCSB
Do not let me be consumed by the fires of selfish passion– I like this phrase–may we be consumed by passion and fire of Holy Spirit rather than by our own sin and selfishness-
