What does my heart harbor, Lord? Truly You know because Your hands stroked my inner being until the rhythm of life danced upon my heart. Let sin not reign in my mortal body because I desire to submit whole-heartedly to Your Spirit. In You, Jesus, my inheritance is secure. Though the earth gives way to the corruption all around me, Your sovereign hand protects all that is good. Listen to the sighing frustrations of Your servant. My heart is wayward, Lord God. It wars against Your tougher commandments and resists belief in Your perfecting promises. God, my King, loosen the chains that bind me. Take my trembling hand in Yours and lead me out of the solitary confinement of loneliness. For in that prison I often admire the throne of iniquity. The emptiness of my heart entices me to fill that space with the things of this world or to give in to instant gratification rather than wait for the blessed fulfillment of holiness that only You can provide. Jesus, loosen the cuffs of my selfish neediness until the peace that You give (not the false satisfaction of this world) reigns within me. Because I am Yours I am never alone. Because You have called me by name no temptation can bind me. I give You my heart in its complexity, rejoicing in peace because You can unravel the mess that stifles the beating rhythm of new life within my soul. Beneath the covenantal canopy of Your Word in 1 John 1:5 and the authority of Christ, I bow in prayer.
This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light,
and in Him is no darkness at all.
