My Lord, Your servant cries out to You from the depths of my neediness. Shield me from the mortal corruption of a self-righteous perspective which skews the truth of grace. I need You, Jesus. Darkness lingers within my heart even though I have been brought into the light of Christ. I know that the warm fires of my daily devotion could be easily doused into lukewarm embers if left to myself. The straight path You have set me on can easily become twisted and crooked, inviting me to stagger along in the inebriation of evil passions if I forge my own way without You leading me. Even the soundness of my faith and the integrity of my spirituality can easily become tainted with the leprosy of false teaching if I am not diligently guarded by Your Spirit, Lord. I am but a borrower of Your light, meant to become a reflection not a source. Lord, do not leave me to flounder in vain ambitions and latent desires for significance. Make the deepest desire of my heart to seek Your glory by putting aside any self-righteous notions of identity. Humble me. Keep me. Define me. Align my passions with Your will. I need You, Lord Jesus. Under the Word given in John 8:12 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12, NIV
Make the deepest desire of my heart to seek Your glory by putting aside any self-righteous notions of identity–Amen!
