The firm grip of sleep that has been holding me captive is finally loosed. Awareness comes rushing in like cool water cleansing my wounded soul. With open eyes I finally see. As the sun slips away beneath the horizon, taking all hope with it, darkness engulfs the land for its triumphant reign. And yet this victory is short-lived. For You, O God, have awakened Your people from their slumber. The LORD has released those He loves from the prison of sleep. One by one He lights the fire in their souls by the breath of His Holy Spirit. Embers of truth begin to glow in the dark. A firestorm of righteousness puts the enemy on attack. But the flames of love, God’s unending, steadfast love, vanquish the darkness as His people come together. With open eyes and united hearts, an army of light in the LORD is awakened by Jesus. In this time of great darkness, who can stand and fight? Only those awake to the LORD. Only those aware of His living water flowing through their souls. Victory belongs to Jesus. Give us strength to rise up, O LORD and show us the way. For darkness will never reign upon the children of God. Sleep will not hold captive the souls of those belonging to Jesus. By Your grace, O LORD, lead us to truth, cover us in righteousness and let us celebrate the victory of love awakened. May all God’s people awaken to the hope we have in the LORD. Under the Word of truth found in Deuteronomy 4:9 and the authority of Christ, I pray.

Only be careful. Keep watch over your life. Or you might forget the things you have seen. Do not let them leave your heart for the rest of your life. But teach them to your children and to your grandchildren.
