I have been away, Lord. I have been away for far too long. My soul has reached the point of starvation for holiness. The sustenance of worldly pursuit is no sustenance at all. Your beloved is left empty, longing for love and fulfillment. I’ve no one to blame but myself, Jesus. Let there be a hallowedness to this hunger within me because I know You delight to respond to holy desire and righteous longing. Doesn’t the truth sparkle as a gem within Your Word-those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied with You? I listen to the panting of my heart, a panting for eternal grace. Lord, my soul’s pain can only be eased by Your indwelling presence. The distance I put between us has cost me the peace that is Yours to give. You are the calm of heaven, the life, the vigor and joy of my heart when it rests securely in You. Jesus, You are greater than the light of sun and moon combined. Your guidance is necessary for me to navigate the narrow path both day and night. You are the sweet dew of new mornings and the lingering warmth of summer evenings. You are the promise of spring and the rest of winter. Truly my times are in Your hands. My Savior, You are the bread for my hunger, the clothing of grace that covers my naked iniquity, the mighty shadow that protects me from the scorching heat of adversity and the living water that never runs dry. You are my everything and I am Yours. I draw near to You now, forgetting what has come before and pressing on to be ever nearer to Your side. Under the mighty Word of perpetual truth in Philippians 3:13-15 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I bow in humble prayer of adoration.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.
