Today’s Prayer

My Lord, I have heard of the renown of Your jealousy. It saturates the pages of Scripture like divine tear stains resulting from Your breaking heart. Your jealousy is so contrary to the self-serving jealousy residing in a human heart. The depths of its power to reveal the height of Your love can be frightening to comprehend. It was You who chose me, Jesus. Is it any wonder that my choice of anything besides You causes Your heart pain? When I cling to this world as if I belong to it instead of to You, what folly my heart entertains in its oblivion to what You must endure because of my selfishness. Your hands formed me. Your fingers knit me together. Your heart drew me higher. Your love saved me. How easily I can forget and take for granted the display of Your perfect love. You chose to die in order to conquer my enemy. You chose to descend from heaven so You could personally pull me out of my mess and rescue me close up. Lord, let me cease to place trust in my flesh. Show me the power of submissive love that follows You wholeheartedly in obedience. Let me stop the habit of leaning on myself or on others when You are the only solid support that can truly hold me. Jesus, You are the Living Water, my well of salvation, that jealously pulled me away from the broken cisterns of tainted water that never satisfied. My Savior, continue to be jealous for my company. There is no one I would rather spend time with than You. Get my attention when distraction gains the upper hand. I thank You for the divine jealousy that keeps me safe within Your holy embrace. Under the mighty Word so graciously given in Exodus 34:14 and the authority of Christ, I pray.

You shall worship no other god; for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
