Today’s Prayer

The faithful surety of Your election brings my heart and soul to the divine ecstasy of true joy, Lord Jesus. For You have looked upon the lowly estate of Your servant and called me blessed. Your eternal sight was not blind to the depths of the pit of depravity in which my soul wallowed. Your mighty arm condescended not only to pull me out but to set my feet upon a rock. Father, enlarge my mind to encompass the capacity of truth entrusted to me. Let Your servant comprehend more of the eternal and far less of the carnal delights of this world. For one is the bread of heaven that sustains and nourishes while the other is sugary sweetness that temporarily tantalizes while secretly causing much damage and hidden decay. Only the indwelling power of Your holiness can restore my soul to the Kingdom vitality it was designed to maintain. Only Your presence feeds my heart longings with better things. Thank You, Jesus, for the gracious choice of Your love plucking me out of this weary world. Under the Word given in Psalm 40:1-2 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I pray.

I waited patiently for the Lord;
    He turned to me and heard my cry.
 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock
    and gave me a firm place to stand.
Psalm 40:1-2, NIV
