Squeeze my heart Lord, until all its defiling contents are removed. Let not my devotion be hypocritical and shallow. Move me away from outward displays which are only mindful of making spiritual impressions upon those witnessing me. Make my heart and soul flutter with true repentance. I desire true godliness not religious pretense. Humble my desires until they readily turn away from flimsy, ostentatious displays of worship which offer a temporary comfort and a transitory thrill. How can I seek to please my eye and ear if my heart goes away unsatisfied and further distanced from You? My soul requires more than the delusive religious ceremonies and rituals. It longs for intimacy with my Creator. I lean on You in divine love. I come to You, Jesus, for vital godliness as I turn my back on the vanities of religion. May I never be part of the impudent mockery of Your majestic grace. Rather, let me solemnly experience the grief of my sin and the victory of the cross. Move into the depths of my soul with the power of Your Spirit. Sensitize me to truth as You bring me out of worldly deception. Under the magnificence of Your Word in 1 Timothy 1:5 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I bow in humble prayer.
