My Lord and my God, let the daily bread of Your provision and grace not only sustain me but fill me with gratitude. Truly, I require a daily supply of Your presence. I cannot store up today the strength that I might need tomorrow. Every morning I must seek to lean into You as I quiet my soul beneath Your love. Tomorrow’s needs are not made known to me until the new day dawns. Let me not anticipate the worries or the lack and carry this unnecessary burden. Instead, I will trust in Your promise of a daily portion. The hunger and thirst I might experience in summer cannot be satisfied in winter because it has not yet come upon me. Today’s solace is for today’s hunger. Sufficient for this day is its own troubles. So let me not borrow them from the future. I cannot eat or drink more than a day’s supply. I cannot dress except for the day. If given more than I need, the temptation to become self-indulgent or the burden of storing excess falls upon me. Trying to hoard today’s manna for tomorrow’s possible hunger will only cause my faith to rot and my hope to be tainted by maggots. Let me find sweet assurance in Your daily provision. Your Word, Your presence, Your grace is enough. Thank You, Lord, for the continual allowance that invites me to rest from worry. Under the beauty and sufficiency of the Word of God in Matthew 6:34 and the authority of Christ, I pray.
Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:34, ESV
AMEN
