Today’s Prayer

Lord, protect me from the perilous danger of turning my inward impressions into an idol of spirituality. Lead me away from the personal liberties that open up into a pore of religious anarchy. Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd. Your life and example are the only standard and conduct to which my heart should measure itself. Rid me of the disease of compromise, Lord. A disease which keeps my sight set far lower than Your excellence. May I not be content with outer holiness if my inner devotion grows cold beneath the gale force winds of spiritual pride. It is the heart that truly matters to You, Lord. Whatever I do or have done or hope to do matters not if my heart has grown cold toward You. May those who You bring across my path feel the overflow of Your divine love as it flows through me. Keep me from measuring others and You according to any personal convictions drawn from idol worship. Let my life be made better because I have been with You, my Savior. Jesus, You are the light of the world. Any other point of view harbored in my heart is darkness. Under the Word of God in Matthew 4:16 and the authority of Christ Jesus, I bow in prayer.

The people who sat in darkness
    have seen a great light.
And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow,
    a light has shined.
Matthew 4:16, NLT
